Taking Care of Community

SpiritHouse's mission is to work with and serve communities and families at the grassroots. We do this by organizing the talent, skill, knowledge, and massive energy of working people through partnership based solutions and responsibility. We promote positive change by:

  1. Serving and working collectively to overcome poverty, illiteracy, and racism;
  2. Providing projects in the arts, healthcare, social and economic justice;
  3. Implementing direct action activities to address day-to-day grievances;
  4. Creating service and education programs to bring about decent living conditions;
  5. Resisting corporate globalization and ills at all levels and in all its forms.

What We Stand For

We support the struggle of the worldwide liberation movement of movements, which we are part of, even though we are primarily located in the Black Community.

We call on all freedom loving and freedom fighting people to work in partnership and solidarity struggle to remake the world so as to build a better future.

We stand for democracy, decentralization, freedom, justice, peace, progressive independent self-governance with political, economic and cultural autonomy.

We stand for Black reparations.

We stand for full employment, dignified jobs, and cooperative work.

We stand for worker collective ownership of the land, decent housing and shelter.

We stand for a cancellation of debts for the poor, an end to hunger, poverty, and malnutrition.

We stand for self-defense.

We stand for the protection and preservation of the environment.

We stand for the removal of the Confederate flag from all public spaces.

We stand against the system of white supremacy and imperialism that has oppressed and repressed Black people for the last 400 years.

We stand against corporate globalization, neoliberalism, corporate imperialism, and corporate welfare.

We stand against the reign of wealthy and ruling elites and their political system of two-party rule by Democrats and Republicans.

We stand against vanguard movements and ideology in which all forms of resistance must conform to their particular political program.

We stand against centralized big government, chauvinism, hero worship, and the cult of personality.

We stand against and openly oppose racism and sexism.

We support free elections, and open democratic space through community assembly.

We support the rights of self-determination for all people.

We support leadership that is organically linked directly to the communities which we are fighting for.

We support Native peoples and their struggle.

We support free and universal healthcare.

We support free education on all levels and the elimination of illiteracy.

We support the release of political prisoners.

We support the abolition of all of Third World debt.

We support an end to the war on drugs, Three Strikes, and the prison-industrial complex (which has left over a million Blacks in prison).

We support the abolition of the death penalty.

We support a living wage (so minimum wage workers can afford to raise a family).

We stand for a revolutionary and collective tradition, a legacy of resistance that builds a bond that links us together in a united front that mobilizes our work, directs our struggle, and organizes our efforts through the people. We recognize that this notion is based on a shared legacy of resistance, shared experiences, and the shared continuous quest for liberation, enlightenment, and fulfillment against repressive forces at work to subdue us, control our life choices, dominate and stifle our human possibilities.

We stand for Organic Pragmatism. It provides us with an understanding of our relationship to the community, and the need to work together to solve our problems. It takes into consideration the particular variations in the spirituality, politics, social, and cultural heritage of the people. It is a systematic way of looking at and critiquing ourselves and others through thinking, planning, and acting from the bottom up. It is based on the necessity of making ourselves worthy to serve the people, proving to them that we are genuine, that we understand the root causes of our plight, that we are willing to unite, work with and through them, that we are in their hands, that everything depends on them, and that together our struggle is to ultimately enable, help, and share with each other by creating solutions to our problems, so as to elevate our entire human condition.
